Things to know before you buy

We would rather you bought the right device than the expensive one, so here is what reviewers and owners actually complain about:

• IT IS HEAVY AND FRONT-LOADED. Apple lists 750-800g for the headset, plus a 353g battery, and the M5 model is heavier than the M2 it replaced. The Dual Knit Band helps, but reviewers still report neck and cheekbone fatigue in long sessions. Try before you buy is not a cliché here.
• THE BATTERY IS EXTERNAL, TETHERED BY A CABLE, AND LASTS 2.5 HOURS (3 hrs of video). There is no all-day untethered use — you either sit near an outlet or you stop.
• PRICE IS THE DEFINING OBJECTION. It went UP to $3,699 in Apple's June 2026 price increase (512GB $3,899, 1TB $4,199), on a product in its third year with no successor expected before 2028.
• CONTENT IS STILL THIN. YouTube finally shipped a native visionOS app, but Netflix has publicly refused to build one and even blocks its iPad app from running in compatibility mode — you're stuck using Safari or a paid third-party app. Advanced multimodal Siri still hasn't arrived.
